If you're thinking of starting a business or
expanding an existing one, but don't know where to
get financing. The El Paso Hispanic Chamber of
Commerce and Oakland, Calif.-based Innovative
Bank are co-sponsoring the seminars, which are
designed to teach business owners the ins and outs
of the Small Business Administration's Community
Express Loan program. Innovative Bank is a
nationwide SBA lender.

Hispanic Chamber spokeswoman Ana Gonzalez
said the event is a "great opportunity for local
businesses to get an edge and hear from an expert
(LaCorte)."

Foryu Logistics Services Inc., a transportation
brokerage company in Northeast El Paso, has
received two of these loans through Innovative
Bank in the past 15 months, totaling $45,000, said
Jesus Mesta, who co-owns the company with Rose
Ortega.
"We wouldn't be able to be where we are without
Innovative Bank's micro-loans," Mesta said.
The 2-year-old company, which employs three
people, used the money to expand, he said.
"It's worthwhile to go listen" at the seminars, Mesta
said. "It's worth your time and your business's time.
"Don't let anything negative hold you back --
whether it's a negative financial situation in the
past, whether you feel your credit isn't worthwhile
enough or you're frustrated with talking to other
banks. The whole point of the Community Express
Loan program is to provide another option."
Mesta also said the Hispanic Chamber is available
to help walk you through the loan-application
process.
"They'll hold your hand," he said.

"As you can tell by that, we're financing small
start-up businesses," Silva said. "It's a great lending
tool for start-ups and home-based businesses."
